Cambodia Airports & Getting Around

Know which airport you are using, agree how you will leave it, and allow realistic time for Cambodian roads.

The main gateways

The airport code matters.

Phnom Penh

Techo International (KTI)

KTI replaced the old Phnom Penh airport for commercial passenger flights in September 2025 and is outside the city.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap–Angkor (SAI)

SAI serves Siem Reap and Angkor but is well outside the town, so plan the transfer in advance.

Coast

Sihanouk International (KOS)

KOS serves Sihanoukville. If continuing to an island, leave enough time between the flight, road transfer and boat.

Leaving the airport

Use a published service or arrange a named pickup.

From KTI

Techo Airport lists standard taxis, app-based services, buses and shuttles. Its current transport page gives an approximate taxi range of US$10–20 to Phnom Penh, depending on the destination. Check the live price before accepting the trip.

Do not use old directions for PNH. Search for Techo International Airport or KTI when booking a pickup.

From SAI

The airport publishes an official shuttle-bus service to Siem Reap town. Timetables and prices may change, so check the official airport or shuttle site for the service matching your flight.

A hotel transfer or official taxi can be easier for a family, a late arrival or substantial luggage.

Tuk-tuks, taxis and longer journeys

Confirm the vehicle, price and destination before setting off.

App-based booking can make the pickup point and quoted price clearer in the main cities. Where you arrange a tuk-tuk or taxi directly, agree whether the price is per person or for the whole vehicle and whether waiting time, tolls or luggage cost extra.

PassApp: one we have used ourselves

We have personally used PassApp in Cambodia to book tuk-tuks and other vehicles. We found it easy to use and, for the journeys we booked, often considerably cheaper than prices we were otherwise quoted.

That is our own experience, not a promise that PassApp will be the cheapest for every route. Check the vehicle type, pickup point and fare shown in the app before confirming, and compare alternatives for airport or longer journeys. PassApp currently lists tuk-tuks, rickshaws, cars and SUVs, with service in several Cambodian cities; availability and fares can change.

For an inter-city car or minivan, use a reputable operator, share the booking details with someone, and avoid unrealistic connection times.

Useful checks

  • Match the registration and driver to the booking.
  • Check the fare shown in the app before confirming.
  • Use the seat belt where one is fitted.
  • Keep valuables with you, not loose beside an opening.
  • Download the route or an offline map.
  • Avoid unnecessary road travel after dark.

Driving yourself

Do not assume your home licence is enough.

Current UK travel advice warns that Cambodia has a high rate of serious road accidents and that travelling after dark increases the risk. It also says a 1949 International Driving Permit and UK licence may sometimes be needed to hire a car or motorcycle over 125cc.

Check the Cambodian licensing position, rental agreement and insurance before driving. A policy may exclude motorcycles or apply engine-size and helmet conditions.

Our practical view

For many first visits, a reputable driver, hotel transfer or app-booked vehicle is simpler than self-driving. That is planning advice, not a claim that every operator or journey is safe.
