Best Airlines & Routes to Cambodia

A clear starting point for travellers from the UK, Europe, North America and Australia—without pretending that one airline is best for every journey.

The quick answer

Start with the route, not the airline's reputation.

UK & Europe

Check Doha and Abu Dhabi first

Qatar Airways and Etihad can connect their home hubs directly with Techo International Airport. Compare them with Emirates and Singapore Airlines for your actual dates.

North America

Use one protected itinerary

Most journeys require a connection in the Middle East or Asia. A single through-ticket is normally safer than building an apparently cheaper journey from separate tickets.

Australia

Plan around an Asian hub

Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and cities in Vietnam are sensible starting points. We could not verify a current nonstop Australia–Cambodia service from official sources.

Destination airport

For Phnom Penh, search for KTI—not the old PNH code.

Techo International Airport (KTI) replaced Phnom Penh International Airport for Phnom Penh's commercial flights on 9 September 2025. Some old articles and saved searches may still show PNH, so check the airport name and code before paying.

If your trip is centred on Angkor and Siem Reap, also compare flying into Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport (SAI). The best Cambodian arrival airport depends on where the journey actually begins.

Before paying

  • Confirm the final airport is KTI or SAI.
  • Check every stop and total journey time.
  • Confirm checked baggage on every flight.
  • Look for terminal or airport changes.
  • Check who operates each codeshare flight.

From the UK and Europe

Airlines worth checking first

This is a practical shortlist, not a league table. Availability depends on your departure airport and travel date.

Qatar Airways

The clearest one-stop starting point from airports with Qatar service. Qatar publishes direct Doha–KTI flights, allowing a protected connection through Hamad International Airport.

Check Qatar Airways →

Etihad Airways

Worth comparing where Etihad serves your departure city. Techo Airport's official flight information currently shows Etihad operating between Abu Dhabi and KTI.

Check KTI flights →

Emirates

Emirates lists Phnom Penh on its route map and can be useful from several Western departure points. Inspect the complete itinerary carefully because the number and location of stops can vary.

Check the Emirates route map →

Singapore Airlines

Singapore is a major regional connection point with onward Singapore Airlines flights to KTI. From Europe it may be a longer geographical route, so compare total time as well as service and price.

Check Singapore Airlines →

From Australia

One well-planned connection is the realistic target.

Singapore Airlines via Singapore

A strong full-service starting point. Singapore Airlines publishes Melbourne–Phnom Penh itineraries with Melbourne–Singapore and Singapore–KTI sectors on the same airline.

See the published route →

Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia Airlines serves Australian cities from its Kuala Lumpur hub and lists Phnom Penh in its network. Compare the through-fare, connection time and baggage conditions for your dates.

Check Malaysia Airlines →

Vietnam Airlines via Vietnam

Vietnam Airlines sells itineraries between Phnom Penh and Australia. Check whether the connection uses Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi and confirm the total travel time.

Low-cost combinations

Budget airlines can appear cheaper through regional hubs, but checked bags, meals, seat selection and separate-ticket risk can remove the saving. Compare the final family cost, not the headline fare.

From North America

Minimise separate tickets and unnecessary stops.

There is no single best route from the United States or Canada because the sensible hub changes with the departure coast. Middle Eastern connections through Doha or Abu Dhabi may suit some cities; Asian hubs such as Singapore, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong or cities in Vietnam may suit others.

Search from your actual home airport and compare the entire journey to KTI or SAI. Give more weight to a protected connection and manageable total time than to a small saving.

A useful comparison

  • Total door-to-door journey time
  • One ticket versus separate tickets
  • Connection length and overnight stops
  • Checked baggage through to Cambodia
  • Rebooking protection after a delay

Baggage and booking

The cheapest fare can be the expensive choice.

Compare the total cost

Economy baggage allowances can change by fare family, route and operating airline. Do not assume that choosing a full-service carrier automatically includes the bags you need.

For a family or anyone relocating, price the required checked suitcases before comparing results. Also confirm whether baggage is checked through at connections.

Avoid fragile itineraries

A self-transfer may require collecting baggage, entering the transit country, changing terminals and checking in again. If the first flight is late, the second airline may have no obligation to move you without charge.

A through-ticket is not always cheapest, but it normally gives stronger protection when a connection fails.

Comparing fares

Flexible dates can mean substantial savings

Compare several departure dates either side of your preferred date. Include Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday alongside weekend departures: moving a journey by one or two days can sometimes substantially reduce the fare.

Weekdays are not always cheaper, so compare actual prices rather than assuming a particular day will save money. If booking a return journey, compare return dates too.

Compare the full journey cost

Add up the cost for everyone travelling, including baggage, airport transport and any overnight accommodation. A lower flight fare may not mean a cheaper journey overall.

Journey time and price

Reaching Cambodia from Britain or Europe usually takes commitment.

Most journeys involve at least one connection and can occupy much of a day or longer once transfers and airport time are included. The exact duration changes with the departure airport, hub and connection.

Fares move constantly. Instead of treating an old £600–£700 example as a promise, compare several dates and include baggage, surface travel and overnight accommodation in the total.

Keep the comparison honest

A shorter protected itinerary may be better value than a lower headline fare with self-transfers, extra baggage charges or a very long connection.

Mainland China connections

Connecting through mainland China? Check before booking

A cheaper fare may involve practical complications during the connection. Check the complete itinerary before paying.

Internet access needs planning

Google, Facebook, YouTube and X are blocked in mainland China; other services may also be restricted. See the UK FCDO advice on internet access.

Airport Wi-Fi registration varies. International passengers may need passport verification, a self-service authentication terminal or another airport-specific login process. For example, Shanghai's official airport information describes passport identification for Wi-Fi access. Check your own connecting airport's instructions; this is not one procedure used at every Chinese airport.

Download boarding passes, booking confirmations, hotel details and essential contact information before travelling, and keep them accessible offline. Do not rely on Gmail, Google Drive or social media to retrieve essential documents during the connection.

Before booking, check

  • The exact connecting airport and terminal.
  • Connection time and any terminal or airport change.
  • Whether baggage is checked through.
  • Whether you must pass immigration or collect baggage.
  • Applicable transit or entry requirements for each traveller's passport.
  • Airport Wi-Fi access for international passengers.

Confirm the itinerary with the airline and check China's National Immigration Administration for official transit and entry information. Do not assume visa-free transit is available to everyone: eligibility depends on the traveller's passport and itinerary, including the airports and onward destination.
