Travel Information · Before you fly
The essential checks for a straightforward arrival—without treating immigration rules as permanent.
For a British visitor
Your passport should be complete, undamaged and valid for at least six months from arrival.
A tourist visa normally permits 30 days from entry. Apply through the official e-Visa service or check current visa-on-arrival arrangements.
Air arrivals must submit Cambodia's free electronic Arrival Card within seven days before arrival.
This summary is written for people travelling on a full British citizen passport. Other nationalities must check the rules that apply to them.
Before applying
For eligible visitors, the tourist e-Visa (Type T) can be applied for through Cambodia's official e-Visa website. An advance e-Visa is not mandatory for every traveller: the Cambodian embassy also describes visa on arrival. Confirm eligibility for your passport and entry point before travelling.
The UK government advises applying for an e-Visa at least four days in advance. Visa on arrival may also be available at airports and land crossings, but requirements and accepted entry points can change.
Check the current fee, photograph requirements, processing time and permitted port of entry on the official Cambodian e-Visa or embassy website before paying.
Electronic Arrival Card
The official Cambodian e-Visa service says to submit e-Arrival within seven days before arrival. Submission is free and separate from your visa application. Complete it before travelling within that window. Current UK advice says it is required for air arrivals at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville international airports.
Use arrival.gov.kh. A website or agent demanding an e-Arrival submission fee is not the official free service.
After arrival
Make sure your passport is stamped correctly on arrival and retain any departure record you are given. Overstaying can lead to fines, detention and deportation.
Hotels, guesthouses and landlords should register foreign guests through Cambodia's Foreigners Present in Cambodia System. If you stay with friends or family, check what you must do yourself.
Tourist entry is not permission to work. Business visas, extensions and work permits have different rules. Confirm your position with Cambodia's immigration and labour authorities or a qualified specialist.
